In Friday's interview, Cohen also praised the FBI and investigators working on the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 United States election after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein earlier announced an indictment of 12 Russian nationals in connection with the investigation.

Former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on Friday heaped praise on GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas for his fiery remark about Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok's extramarital affair during an explosive hearing on Capitol Hill. "And I would contend that Mr. Strzok was doing it a little, too". Does he really think we are so gullible that we would buy his absurd claim that his "we'll stop it" text meant all of us - the American people - would act to stop Trump from becoming president?

Democrats seemed to agree with that sentiment, as California Congressman Ted Lieu said it was "a stupid and ridiculous hearing".

"The forensic examination was done by the ICIG and they can document that", Gohmert said, further charging Strzok "you were given that information and you did nothing with it".

Strzok shot back, saying the question revealed more about Gohmert's character than his own. He was removed from the Russian Federation investigation a year ago after the texts were discovered.

Strzok worked on FBI investigations into both Clinton's use of an email server and potential co-ordination between Russian Federation and Trump's campaign.

Page appeared Friday, declining to speak to reporters as she entered the committee spaces, after House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, had threatened to hold her in contempt for defying a subpoena earlier in the week.

Gohmert said impassionedly as Democrats on the committee yelled, "Mister Chairman, this is outrageous!" and a female member yelled, "You need your medication".

As Trybus continues to harass her other officers arrived and a female police officer finally steps in on behalf of Irizarry. Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia criticized the district for not acting more swiftly to discipline the officer.

The exchange may well come across like two people trying to torpedo a presidential candidate, but honestly I think it's just as likely we'd learn, with more text messages, that "the country" is a pet nickname Strzok once gave to Page's bellybutton.

Strzok worked on the Russian Federation investigation, which the FBI started but that Mueller later took over.

Trump said Tuesday that his meeting with Putin "may be the easiest" out of all his other meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders this week.

"I am ashamed of the Justice Department today". Trey Gowdy of SC, the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against her.

Democratic members of the House committees participating in Strzok's hearing broke out into choruses of objections and repeatedly spoke over GOP lawmakers attempting to question Strzok.

Republican Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, said they had learned new information that "has been a long time coming", but he and the other lawmakers declined to provide details.

In his opening statement, Strzok said he has never allowed personal opinions to infect his work, that he knew information during the campaign that had the potential to damage Trump but never contemplated leaking it and that the focus put on him by Congress is misguided and plays into "our enemies' campaign to tear America apart".
