'Dr Harry, the Australian doctor, he's very good, he's got a very good bedside manner, he's got a very bouncy Australian accent, and they seemed to find that quite relaxing and reassuring, ' he said after landing at Heathrow airport.

"By the time we arrived on site, local divers like Ben Reymenants and the awesome foursome from Britain (John Volanthen, Rick Stanton, Jason Mallinson and Chris Jewell) had already been doing the most extraordinary dives through the cave and laying the very robust rope which made all subsequent dives to the soccer team not only possible, but safe".

Two British divers found them on July 2, squatting on a mound in a flooded chamber several kilometres inside the complex.

"(They provided) everything from catering, communications, media and of course the huge teams of workers filling the cave with tonnes and tonnes of equipment to try and lower the water and sustain the diving operations", he wrote on Facebook.

The 12 and their coach are recovering both physically and mentally and will be discharged from hospital on Thursday, July 19, Piyasakol told reporters.

The members of the Thai soccer team who were rescued from a cave earlier this week are sending "thank you" messages from the hospital where they are recovering.

"I understand that everyone is anxious and have good wishes for them", Dr. Chokedamrongsook said.

One heroic man gave his life to save the children in his rescue effort according to Reuters, former Thai navy SEAL Samarn Kunan, who left behind a loving wife.

With them were six Australian Federal Police cave divers, one Defence diver and a support crew member who was described as integral to the rescue operation.

Australian Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull, in a video he released of a conversation with Dr Harris, offered his condolences and congratulations.

Thai authorities called Harris for help on July 5 when experts divers from the United Kingdom, who were leading the mission, said he was the best person for the job, given his medical skills and 30 years' worth of diving experience, according to the ABC. Without him, the father says, he doesn't know how the kids could have survived.

Footage circulated by the SEAL team showed boys seemingly unconscious in wetsuits and diving gear being carried over rocky passageways. He said: "Are we heroes?"

Most of the boys, who were shown in their hospital beds, looked relaxed, and began their brief statements with a "wai", the traditional Thai greeting of hands raised to chest level with palms together.

"We wish you the best for this very tough time".

The 53-year-old built a strong rapport with the trapped boys, building their confidence ahead of the successful rescue mission, News Corp reported.

The pair are said to share a passion for outdoor pursuits.

The teenagers also asked if they could be sent some KFC.

Samarn Kunan, 38, a former member of the elite SEALs unit, was the only casualty in the operation.
