Mesut Ozil holds hands in training

Emery admitted he had not spoken to Ozil about the player's decision to end his global career, instead opting to give him time to focus on club duties after a tumultuous few weeks.

Ozil - who won 92 caps - criticised the German Football Association (DFB) in a three-part statement announcing his global retirement on Sunday, claiming they had failed to protect him from racially motivated criticism after the team's disappointing World Cup campaign.

"It´s something which is unfortunate for him but we will try to do everything so that he feels good, that he trains well so he feels good for the season, because he´s one of the key players".

"We are going to help him to feel good", Emery added.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil avoided any talk of the controversy surrounding his withdrawal from worldwide football and has opted to focus on the club's preseason friendly tournament in Singapore.

Ozil's announcement that he was retiring from worldwide football at the age of 29 came in a series of lengthy, defiant statements in which he decried his treatment in the wake of the nation's disastrous World Cup campaign as well as the reaction to a controversial meeting he held with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan back in May.

Emery says he has not yet spoken to Ozil about his decision, which was explained across several lengthy statements on Twitter. Hoeness, like the German Federation, is angry Ozil blamed racism for his decision.

We are going to help him to feel good.

"We are expecting good matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid. Here I want to help him and everybody in the club is thinking like me, to help him feel happy and to express his quality with us".

He said in Ankara it's "truly unacceptable that a young man who has given everything to the German national team and has contributed to its success is facing such a racist attitude because of his religion".

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech also said the players were keen to support Ozil, who smashed the club´s transfer record when he moved from Real Madrid in 2013.

We want to make him feel free.

"It's a personal decision".
