Meadows leaves door open to impeachment vote on Rosenstein

Rep. Mark Meadows R-N.C. chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and Rep. Jim Jordan R-Ohio a key member of the group walk through Statuary Hall at the Capitol in Washington Wednesday Sept. 13 2017

The articles were filed by North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows and Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, leaders of the House Freedom Caucus and supporters of President Trump.

It's unclear how much support this maneuver has from other House Republicans, much less from Paul Ryan.

The push came as the House left town Thursday to kick off a month-long recess until September.

The Justice Department says the only thing that has been withheld is a list of which Trump associates are under investigation, the Washington Post reported.

Meadows said Wednesday that he wouldn't rule out re-filing the articles of impeachment using a procedural maneuver, known as a privileged motion, that would require the full House to vote within two days.

The impeachment resolution was filed by conservative Reps.

"Information has been hidden, efforts have been stonewalled", Meadows said during an appearance on Fox News Wednesday night. "More importantly, the American people are sick of it". But Meadows and Jordan stopped short of forcing an immediate vote on the measure, sparing Republican lawmakers for now from a potential dilemma.

"Rosenstein needs to turn the documents over, and we are simply, the Freedom Caucus, exhausted of waiting, so we're not waiting anymore", Rep. Ralph Norman, R-South Carolina, said. "We're trying to make it too political", said Rep. Walter Jones, R-NC, when asked about the proposal recently.

Alphabet Stock Skyrockets on Stellar Earnings Despite $5 Billion E.U. Fine
But it's important to remember that simply paying the fine - if Google loses its appeal - doesn't make the problem go away. Also delighting Wall Street, Alphabet has apparently lowered the expenses in the non-Google businesses in its portfolio.

The Republicans who introduced the resolution have criticized Rosenstein for not being responsive enough as they have requested documents related to the Russian Federation investigation and a closed investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton's emails. Number three: We - since I got involved - [Republicans] have been getting a lot of compliance from [Justice Department officials] on the document request. He did sign off on at least one request to renew FISA warrant after taking office.

Democrats criticized the Republican move.

However, the Justice Department says it has had no discussion with Meadows since he introduced articles of impeachment after their meeting Wednesday afternoon, CBS News' Paula Reid reports.

While the scoping memo is cited in Meadows' impeachment resolution, he acknowledged Thursday that it fell outside the subpoena and might not need to be produced in order for the Justice Department to comply with the subpoena.

"I support Kevin McCarthy; everybody knows that", Ryan told reporters.

"What I would like Congress to do is to focus on some of the legal challenges that are out there", Sessions said. Rosenstein has said the documents contain personal data, information about intelligence sources and other sensitive information.

Justice Department officials have said they have provided the vast majority of information sought in subpoenas from two key House committees - and are almost done with providing all of the outstanding information requested in those subpoenas.

The five articles of impeachment would charge Rosenstein with failing to produce information, though the department has provided lawmakers with more than 800,000 documents. "If you are looking for documents, then you want compliance, and you want whatever moves you toward compliance".
