UN peacekeepers return after 4 years to Israel-occupied Golan Heights near Syria

Back on May 10, Israel conducted what it called its most intensive airstrikes on Syria in decades.

According to the Israel Defence Force (IDF) the men, believed to have belonged to a local Islamist rebel group affiliated to Isis, crossed into Israeli-controlled territory before 11pm.

He said the Russian presence there was temporary, and that the observation posts would be handed over to Syrian regime forces once the situation stabilized.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Thursday it had targeted and killed seven "armed terror operatives" just 650 feet from the Israeli border on the Golan Heights.

Seven IS militants were killed in an Israeli attack overnight Wednesday in Syria's Golan Heights.

The Syrian conflict erupted in 2011 and Russian intervention in 2015 helped to turn the tide in President Bashar al-Assad's favour.

The incident took place in the southern part of the Golan Heights, where a demilitarized buffer zone was established between Israel and Syria.

Earlier, following a tour of the northern border with Syria, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told reporters the situation is returning to its pre-Syrian civil war state.

The company has never turned an annual profit and has had only two profitable quarters since becoming public in 2010. The compay reported an adjusted net loss of $3.06 per share, more than analysts expected.

Assad's sweep of southwest Syria drove hundreds of thousands of refugees toward Israel and Jordan, alarming both.

During their summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump said they were exploring ways to protect Israel from the war in Syria.

He named them as a strict observance of a 1974 armistice with Syria, not allowing Iran to use Syria as a front against Israel and not allowing Syria to be used as a transit point for advanced arms deliveries to Hezbollah.

Israel's military spokesman, Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, said in a telephone briefing with reporters that he could not immediately comment on the United Nations deployment on the Syrian side of the border.

"The IDF remains, on high readiness, and levels of alert for any threats - be it in the air or on the ground - and we of course remain committed to defend Israeli citizens and Israeli sovereignty", Conricus told journalists.

"When the Syrian forces with all their supporters are trying to capture the areas close to the borders we can expect more mistakes and more friction with us".

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's sweeping away of rebels in southwestern Syria has anxious Israel, which believes it could allow his Iranian backers to entrench their troops close to the frontier.
