Uruguayan Star Torreira Confirms Arsenal Move

Torreira was waiting for the World Cup to conclude, but with Uruguay now out he is free to make his move to London.

Lucas Torreira is now with the Uruguay national team for the World Cup and his father Ricardo Torreira has revealed that his son rejected doing a medical of Arsenal while in Russian Federation because they found it inconveniencing to them yet he is focussing at his national duty.

The Gunners did offer the player to undergo a medical in Russian Federation, but the player rejected as he wanted to commit wholly on national duty.

Torreira has a £22.1m (€25m) release clause in his Sampdoria contract but Arsenal have chose to pay a premium so they can spread out the payments.

"The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining".

"There are many clubs who contacted us but we have given our word to Arsenal and are very satisfied with what they offered".

Maurizio Sarri says Chelsea may make one more new signing
Sarri was less sure about the future of Courtois amid speculation that the goalkeeper wants to leave Chelsea and join Real Madrid. The City manager also revealed how much he was looking forward to locking horns with Sarri, who replaced Conte last month.

Reports in Italy had suggested that La Samp and the Gunners had already agreed a deal for the Uruguay global, but the transfer was put on hold until after his participation in Russian Federation.

Jankto had previously been linked with Arsenal, but it now seems he will act as the replacement for Torreira, who is a reported target for Unai Emery in North London.

Torreira is set to join Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos as off-season signings at Arsenal.

The 22-year-old Sampdoria star has been tipped to join to Gunners for a while, but his involvement with Uruguay's World Cup run up until the Quarter-Finals held up any kind of deal.

Arsenal begin their pre-season campaign at non-league Boreham Wood on July 14.
