"Don't know why Washington politicians don't change libel laws?"

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Sanders said the book did not accurately depict the administration, adding that it had been "pretty widely pushed back on".

"I would've loved to have spoken to you", Trump said.

The publication of Woodward's book has been anticipated for weeks, and current and former White House officials estimate that almost all their colleagues cooperated with the famed Watergate journalist.

Allegations of Trump's remarks are not new and appear to deepen the divide between the him and Sessions, particularly after the attorney general recused himself from the ongoing Russian Federation investigation in 2017. It also says he called Trump an "idiot", an account Kelly denied Tuesday.

"Don't testify. It's either that or an orange jumpsuit", Dowd is quoted telling the president.

The president has issued several tweets related to the publication of the book's excerpts on Tuesday, including several linking to reports in which various administration officials walk back their criticism of his administration quoted in the book.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis is quoted explaining to Trump why the US maintains troops on Korean Peninsula to monitor North Korea's missile activities.

The book says Mr Mattis acknowledged Mr Trump's request but then, after the conversation, told an aide he would not do "any of that".

But analysts still say the United States appears resigned to the likelihood of a final military victory by Syrian regime forces. Peskov said numerous "terrorists" are holed up in Idlib, leading to a "general destabilisation of the situation".

In one tweet, the president specifically denied a passage of the book that claims he used a fake Southern accent to insult his attorney general, Jeff SessionsJefferson (Jeff) Beauregard SessionsTrump denies calling Sessions "mentally retarded, ' 'dumb Southerner" Woodward book rocks Trump White House GOP's reaction to Trump ripping DOJ indictments: SilenceMORE.

In it, the president says to the reporter "I think you've always been fair" and claims he was never contacted for an interview or informed of Woodward's soon-to-be-published work.

A Pentagon spokesman, Col. Rob Manning, said Mattis was never interviewed by Woodward. National security advisers instead developed options for the airstrike that Trump ordered. Trump tweeted Tuesday night. She told reporters at United Nations headquarters that she had been privy to conversations about the Syrian chemical weapons attacks, "and I have not once ever heard the president talk about assassinating Assad". Woodward's sources recounted Trump making pointed remarks, such as "mentally retarded" and "dumb Southerner", and claimed Trump mocked the attorney general's southern twang behind his back.

"[Trump] would make fun of her voice", a person who worked on the show's set said to The Beast.

The Washington Post released an audio recording and transcript of a call the president made to Woodward in early August.

Mr Trump tells Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross he does not trust him, saying: "I don't want you doing any more negotiations". Wolff's book attracted attention with its vivid anecdotes but suffered from numerous factual inaccuracies.

As Cortney reported, former White House lawyer John Dowd denied calling the president a "f***ing liar" and Mattis also clarified that he did not use the words attributed to him by Woodward. Don't know why Washington politicians don't change libel laws?

Former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer defended Woodward's methodology.

On Amazon, Woodward's new book was already ranked the top-selling book on Tuesday.
