Cop goes home to wrong apartment, kills man inside

Authorities say the officer called dispatch to report the shooting.

A police officer in Texas shot and killed a 26-year-old man whom she thought was in her apartment - only, it wasn't her apartment, police said.

After the shooting, Jean was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival. He died shortly after.

Police issued a news release Friday saying the shooting happened Thursday night. However, Chief Hall did confirm she is a white patrol officer. The officer has not been identified, and she is being placed on administrative leave as the investigation is conducted.

Right now there are more questions than answers.

However, as we continued this investigation it became clear that we were dealing with what appears to be a much different and very unique situation. Hall also confirmed the department is obtaining an arrest warrant for the officer involved and that blood was taken from the officer for a drug and alcohol test.

Facebook Christine Lewis was identified as one of four people missing after two boats collided on Saturday on the Colorado River . The Mohave County Sheriff's Office said the body of 50-year-old Brian Grabowski of Tulare, California , was found around 9 a.m.

It's not clear whether the officer is in custody, though Hall said she didn't know the officer's whereabouts.

"If this was not an officer who pulled the trigger, they would be in a jail cell tonight", Dallas Muslim community leader Omar Suleiman said during the vigil.

The 26-year-old Jean was an immigrant from the small Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. His death sparked an outpouring of support and demand for police accountability on Twitter and Facebook, including in his home country, St. Lucia, according to the Times. Central on Thursday and opened fire on Jean after thinking he was an intruder who'd broken into her home. But social media users were apparently on the case, seemingly revealing the name of and other information about the off-duty cop whose purported blunder of confusing her apartment for the one belonging to Botham Shem Jean just didn't seem to add up.

"I couldn't believe it when we got that call".

"It just still feels like a nightmare", she said. "My brother is my best friend", Jean's sister tells NBC.
