Update 3: Now there are more sources saying he won't resign and will force Trump to fire him.

In a radio interview aired on Monday, Mr Trump said he had not decided whether to fire Mr Rosenstein.

Trump is now in NY, where he will this week chair a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

A Justice Department spokesperson conceded that Rosenstein did discuss secretly taping the president but presented an anonymous source who told the Times that he did so in a sarcastic manner.

Rosenstein has been a controversial figure in the Trump administration for some time.

The move is likely to be regarded as an effort by Trump to hamstring special counsel Robert Mueller, who has led the Russian Federation probe since the president sacked then-FBI director James Comey in May 2017.

The red card was controversial, with Juve chief Massimo Allegri claiming VAR would have seen the decision overturned. Everyone who knows me knows about my respect for women, equality and respect.

He was reportedly heading to the White House on Monday, although Trump is in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly. "We need everyone who's engaged in helping achieve President Trump's mission", he said.

Rosenstein's prospective departure throws into question the oversight of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

"The New York Times's story is inaccurate and factually incorrect", Rosenstein said. The Justice Department also has drawn attention to other instances in which Mr. McCabe has made statements that later have been proved false.

Those developments came one week after Rosenstein laid the groundwork for the firing of Comey by writing a memo that criticized Comey's handling of the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server. If he's removed it could be the precursor to Trump maneuvering to put an end to the investigation.

The removal of Rosenstein from the office of Deputy Attorney General puts Mueller's investigation in danger, as Trump will nominate Rosenstein's replacement.
