Teenager Prithvi Shaw became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut as the hosts reached 232-3 at tea on day one of the first match against West Indies on Thursday.

Virat Kohli also surpassed Virender Sehwag (714 in 2009-10) to score the most number runs in five consecutive Test innings in India. He delivered the masterclass batting style in the first match against Windies. He is second youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to make a Test century. Shaw got to his century with local boy Cheteshwar Pujara at the other end, much to the delight of the Indian dressing room who gave the youngster a standing ovation.

Shaw, who is 18 years and 329 days old, reached his hundred off just 99 deliveries in the second session on day one.

Overall, Shaw is the 106th player to score a century on Test debut and is the first since Ireland's Kevin O'Brien against Pakistan earlier this year.

Skipper Virat Kohli became the quickest batsman to reach 24 Test centuries after the great Donald Bradman early on day two as India dominated the West Indies on Friday.

India lost a wicket in the very first over but then Pujara and Shaw scored 206 for the second wicket. Subsequently, Shaw offered an easy return catch to leggie Devendra Bishoo trying to play against the turn.

Once Shikhar Dhawan was left out of the two-Test series against West Indies, the path was clear for Shaw to make his debut.
