Khabib Nurmagomedov looks on stern-faced at a pre-fight press conference before taking on Conor McGregor

In the main event for the fight card, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted former champion Conor McGregor in the fourth round. Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov had a very fierce and bitter personal rivalry but it was expected to end in the octagon, not outside of it.

On Monday morning, a rather humbled looking McGregor posted a photo showing some damage done to his eye and nose.

Abdelaziz, who McGregor had called a "terrorist" in the build up to Saturday, suggested his fighter had been provoked by the comments the Irishman had made prior to them meeting in the octagon. "I promised to make him answer for his words and I did".

Despite his loss, McGregor tweeted after the fight that he would like to meet Nurmagomedov again. We'll see what happens with Khabib and what's next.

"What Khabib did to himself tonight, he was set up. all the mean things that were said about him. he won the fight".

Chicago wouldn't go away quietly, with Anthony Rizzo knotting the game back up in the fifth with a 429 foot shot to right field. The Cubs will play the loser of Monday's second tiebreaker between Colorado and the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West title.

The exciting nature of the fight, and the fact that Ferguson has been on Khabib's radar for so long - including the ill-fated UFC 223 match-up that fell through due to Ferguson's injury - could finally come to fruition, assuming Khabib is not kept out of action for too long through suspension. What about this? Why are people talking about my jumping over the cage? However, White said neither fighter was blameless, and described McGregor as a "superstar".

"Conor is going to come out the victim here and Khabib is going to have a very hard time getting a visa or a green card. Now he has to go before the Nevada commission". "I've been doing this for 18 years and this is the biggest night ever and I couldn't be more disappointed".

"You do whatever you want in the Octagon but outside this is the boarder of civilians where there are children, women and strangers".

"I know my father is going to smash me when I go home". In Nurmagomedov's apology for triggering the postfight melee, he said of McGregor, "He talked about my religion, he talked about my country, he talked about my father, he come to Brooklyn and he broke bus, he nearly killed a couple people".
