Ivanka Trump squashes rumors she'll replace Nikki Haley as United Nations ambassador

BREAKING UN Ambassador Nikki Haley resigns

U.S. President Donald Trump announces that he has accepted the resignation of Nikki Haley as US Ambassador to the United Nations, in the Oval Office on October 9, 2018, in Washington, DC.

Last year, she upset U.S. allies and foes alike by warning that the United States would be "taking names" of countries that backed a UN resolution criticising Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

White House officials had sought to put a hold on record-setting administration turnover in the run-up to the November 6 elections, with aides being asked months ago to step down or commit to stay through Election Day to avoid adding to a sense of turmoil. "You have done a fantastic job and I want to thank you very much".

The news blindsided some key US allies and many congressional Republicans involved in foreign policy matters.

On Twitter, people discussed whether Ivanka Trump, who serves as a White House senior adviser, would replace Haley, prompted in part by comments from the president himself.

Haley has pressed for a hawkish line on Iran, justified USA cuts to foreign assistance and earlier this year led the United States in bolting from the UN Human Rights Council, accusing it of bias against Washington and Israel. Lindsey Graham tweets he expects Haley will continue to be a "key player" in their party.

She was previously governor of SC - the first woman to hold the post.

Haley would probably endorse Ivanka for United Nations ambassador.

Interpol president resigns amid Beijing probe
The policing organization did not explain how they received the resignation notice and how they determined its authenticity. A short time later, Interpol released a short, odd statement of its own, declaring that it had received Meng's resignation.

"I thank ambassador Nikki Haley for her uncompromising struggle against the hypocrisy of the United Nations", he wrote in Hebrew on his official Twitter account, wishing her success in her future endeavours. She reported owing between $500,000 and $1 million on financial disclosures filed as part of her nomination to be US ambassador to the United Nations.

The president said he is considering Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s Dina Powell as a potential replacement along with "others". While she described herself as honored and excited to be working in such an historic institution, she insisted in the same breath that the United Nations bureaucracy was in sore need of fix and accountability.

"I don't see (my role) as pushing an "America First" policy, I see it as defending America because every day, I feel like I put body armor on".

And even if 2020 isn't an option, Ms Haley is only 46-years-old. "I just don't know who I'm fighting that day", Haley said earlier this year. I mean, does this bootlicking sound like someone mounting a primary challenge? There was a lot. He had said she would be "incredible" in the role and acknowledged he would be accused of nepotism if he nominated her.

"We're all happy for you in one way, but we hate to lose (you)..."

Haley raised eyebrows within the administration when she announced in April that Washington was going to impose sanctions on Moscow over its support of Syria's government. Maybe a different capacity.

At the UN, Haley helped spearhead the Trump administration's efforts to combat what it alleged to be anti-American and anti-Israel actions by the worldwide body. "You can have your pick".
