Khashoggi, a 59-year-old outspoken critic of the Saudi government and Washington Post columnist, was reported missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

A White House aide says President Donald Trump is serious when he says there'll be "severe punishment" if Saudi Arabia is found to be complicit in the disappearance of USA resident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In a statement Sunday on the official Saudi Press Agency attributed to "an official", the kingdom rejected any threats of economic sanctions or political pressure and said it would "respond with greater action".

Several individuals and major businesses have distanced themselves from Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, further isolating the Middle East powerhouse that vehemently denies involvement in Khashoggi's alleged murder.

Later, at the White House, he reiterated that there would be "powerful consequences" for Saudi Arabia. The index recovered some ground later to close 3.5% down. The losses have wiped out all the market's gains in 2018, CNN said.

The statement did not directly acknowledge Khashoggi's disappearance, which happened October 2 when he visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

Europe's largest economies - Britain, France and Germany - said yesterday they were treating the case with "the utmost seriousness".

His wife Norine looked on from the visitors' seating area as he listened to testimony from defense and prosecution witnesses. Other state lawmakers in Washington called on the impose sanctions on Turkey in retaliation for Brunson's treatment .

Khashoggi "promised me to sponsor the project and I guess they could listen in to those conversations", he said.

"We encourage joint Saudi-Turkish efforts in that regard, and expect the Saudi Government to provide a complete and detailed response". The Saudi writer, who lives in the United States, disappeared in early October after entering the Saudi consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Under Son, SoftBank built its global influence through tech investments and raised over $93 billion a year ago to create its Vision Fund - with $45 billion coming from Saudi Arabia.

A spokesman for the UK's worldwide trade department told CNN that Fox's diary was not yet finalized for the week of the conference.

Turkish officials have released footage of a squad of Saudi men arriving in Istanbul the day Jamal Khashoggi vanished. "It appreciates the voices of the wise people around the world, who have shown wisdom, have deliberated and searched for the truth instead of rushing and seeking to exploit rumors and accusations to achieve goals and agendas unrelated to the search for the truth", the source said.

The Washington Post, citing unidentified USA and Turkish officials, reported that Turkey had told US officials it has audio and video recordings that prove Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate. Saudi Arabia has committed US$45 billion to the Vision Fund for technology investments and plans to put the same amount into the next Vision Fund. "We're going to get to the bottom of it, and there will be severe punishment".

Long before the dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi vanished, the kingdom has sought influence in the West - perhaps intended, in part, to make us forget what it is.
