The reboot/sequel (reborquel) to John Carpenter's 1978 original brought back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode; had the original movie's director, John Carpenter, as executive producer; and brought in the talented David Gordon Green to handle directing duties while working from a script by Danny McBride. It's also the biggest opening ever for a horror movie with a female lead and the biggest opening ever for a movie - any movie, horror or otherwise - with a female lead over the age of 55 (Curtis is 59).

Weekend estimates for Halloween indicate a total of $80.5 million gross from Thursday to Saturday, making it the second-highest domestic horror opening of all-time and the biggest October horror opening ever.

Forty years later, Michael Myers is still drawing huge audiences to the movie theaters for a good scare.

The horror flick beat an opening weekend record for slasher movies set by the 2009 reboot of "Friday the 13th", which brought in $40.6 million. Now we know his final fate.

Universal's "Halloween" is the 11th installment in the series, five of which have starred Jamie Lee Curtis as iconic avenging babysitter Laurie Strode, who is now a grandmother in the newest take.

"I'm going for one BOAST post", Curtis recently tweeted, listing the new film's accolades.

But the Patriots beat the Bears for the eighth time in nine games since the 1985 team got routed in the Super Bowl. Star outside linebacker Khalil Mack was limited all week with an ankle injury, and it showed in this game.

Movie theater attendance was up overall the last few days, with this particular weekend (42nd of the year) posting record-breaking ticket sales of about 18.2 million, the highest on record (that is, since 1982).

"I am enormously proud of this film", said Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, who co-financed the film with Miramax.

"Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead".

Meanwhile, Fox expanded YA drama "The Hate U Give" to 2,303 screens. That said, Halloween did deliver the largest October opening day of all-time, topping Venom's $32.5 million.

A Star Is Born kept strong this weekend and took the number two spot at the box office with $19.3 million.

Damien Chazelle's Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man" tumbled to fifth place in its second weekend earning $8.6 million, down 46 percent from its launch.
