Apple Intros New MacBook Air with Retina Display

All-new MacBook Air takes flight

100 million Macs are now out there in the wild now, which is a major milestone for the company.

The old school MacBook Air is finally, FINALLY being replaced.

While most of the upgrades to the new Air are exactly what users have been asking for, there are a few changes some people likely won't be enthusiastic about. The new Air has a new Retina display at 2560 by 1600 pixels.

Apple says the new MacBook Air has been redesigned from the ground up, and "carefully refined". The key takeaways from this new version of the MacBook Air is that it's more powerful than before, sports a recycled aluminium chassis and now has a Retina Display. It weighs 2.7lbs - lighter than the 2.96lbs 1.35 kg of the vintage 13-inch Air.

That means there's no separate display for Touch ID right beside the fingerprint scanner slash power button, but it otherwise it works just as you'd expect.

"Redesigning MacBook Air started with a stunning Retina display and all-day battery life, and then we added Touch ID and the Apple T2 Security Chip, the latest processors, incredible sound, the third-generation keyboard and Force Touch trackpad, high speed Thunderbolt 3 ports, and of course macOS Mojave in a lovely, thinner, lighter, all-aluminium design that a whole new generation of MacBook Air customers are going to love". The T2 processor has an audio controller for wide-stereo sound, and an always on processor that allows for "Hey Siri" support.

Leader Finau vows to attack in Shanghai
Last year, he finished second at the Safeway Open in California to get his season off to a strong start. Americans now have won 41 of the 69 events since the World Golf Championships series began in 1999.

It's worth reflecting that the MacBook Air redefined the "thin and light" laptop into a machine for the mainstream, leading a movement away from CD/DVD slots and mechanical hard drives and sparking a competing wave of Windows "ultrabooks" which have now become the norm. It is still the butterfly design. There is also a brand new Force Touch trackpad, giving it 20 percent larger area apart from pressure-sensing capabilities.

The new MacBook Air is 25% louder and two times more bass.

The new MacBook Air maintains its classic tapered aluminum design, but now includes two Thunderbolt 3 ports along the left edge and a headphone jack on the right. For less money, you could opt for the fantastic Surface Laptop 2, which comes equipped with a more powerful 8th-generation Intel Core i5 and premium finish for a lot less. Customers that want to have 16GB of RAM instead need to RM 880 on top of that price tag. All models ship with SSD storage, starting at 128GB and going all the way up to 1.5TB. It has the same 12 hour battery life as the previous model. It features a 50.3Wh battery that is said to provide up to 12 hours of wireless Web browsing, 13 hours of iTunes movie playback, and 30 days of standby time.

It's true that new Air owners will need to buy a dongle or USB-C cable even to perform a simple tasks such as plugging in an iPhone for charging or syncing. The screen size is the same, but there is now 17 per cent less Mac in terms of volume and it's 10 per cent thinner too.

The body of the MacBook Air is all-aluminium, it is 100% recycled.
