The Post also reported that bin Salman, in conversations with the White House, has described Khashoggi as "a risky Islamist", claiming he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Also on Thursday, the United States said Saudi Arabia should return Khashoggi's remains to his family for burial "as soon as possible", US State Department spokesman Robert Palladino told reporters.

The body of Jamal Khashoggi was "dissolved" after he was murdered and dismembered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul a month ago, a Turkish official said Friday, as the journalist's fiancee criticised the United States (US) reaction as "devoid of moral foundation".

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has met with a delegation of pro-Israeli advocates in Riyadh amid reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked the USA to keep supporting the young prince against global criticism.

Bin Salman has told President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to whom he is close, that low-level officials who had gone rogue had killed Khashoggi.

Prince Turki reiterated that the Kingdom is committed to bringing to justice those responsible for Khashoggi's murder "and whoever else failed to uphold the law".

Khashoggi, who lived in the United States and wrote columns for the Washington Post, went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to collect some documents, but he never reappeared.

Instead, it said, the Saudis on Wednesday invited the Turkish prosecutor and his delegation to Saudi Arabia jointly to question the suspects held there about what happened to Khashoggi's body and whether his death was premeditated.

However, he seemed to rule out going to another Premier League club. "But at the moment I can not tell you [about my future] because I don't know".

The Crown Prince urged the advisors to preserve the US-Saudi alliance and claimed the journalist was a member of the Sunni Islamist organisation the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the Washington Post.

In a statement to the newspaper, Khashoggi's family denied he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and said the murdered writer had himself denied this repeatedly in recent years.

One Israeli official said, "Saudi Arabia is a very important state in the region, and Israel and other nations have a major interest in ensuring its continued stability".

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also called on Riyadh to disclose the identity of an alleged local collaborator said to have been involved in disposing of Khashoggi's body.

Khashoggi entered the consulate last month to get a document he needed to marry his Turkish fiancee.

"We don't know where the body is", he said.

Turkey has steered away from publicly blaming Saudi Arabia for the killing.
