The Liverpool manager had been clear in his belief that this game would test his side's credentials.

Juergen Klopp's side, second in the league standings on goal difference behind Manchester City, have only dropped points against the champions and Chelsea in their opening 10 matches as they bid for a first top-flight title since 1990.

Since losing the first two games of the season against Manchester City and Chelsea, a tough start for any new manager, Arsenal have quietly built confidence and momentum and went into this game on the back of a 13-game unbeaten run.

'We want to be exciting and play good football and we will always do that with the players we have but in the big games you can't always rely on scoring two or three goals to win a game. However, they have drawn their last two league games at Stamford Bridge, although those games were against Liverpool and Manchester United.

Such results show why Liverpool are just [2.06] to continue their recent dominance of the Gunners by winning the game - Arsenal last beat the Merseysiders in April 2015.

'I saw Virgil van Dijk after the game and he said "I should have had a hat-trick".

"The balance in the 90 minutes was good, our intensity was a very good intensity". We have hard matches ahead of us. The Scot's battle with Hector Bellerin was one of the game's more intriguing sub-plots.

"But that's England a little bit, you want the poster boys". Asked whether Liverpool can sustain that form throughout the campaign, Klopp replied: "Yes". They return to European action on Wednesday at home to Shaktar Donesk.

This is what the so-called test of fire looks like for Arsenal.

City fans believe Uefa and Financial Fair Play have worked against the club, stopping it benefiting from the investment of their rich owners.

Murphy added: "I've really liked seeing the Gomez and van Dijk partnership come together this season". And if such a plan is not forthcoming, this could easily be a ding-dong affair.

Again, they were far from their best, unnerved at times by Arsenal's energy and incisiveness, particularly in wide areas.

Klopp and his team have been excellent this season, give them a break. When we win it's more easy.

With all that in mind, Liverpool/Draw is worth a dabble at [16]. The 22-year-old has taken such command of the back end of midfield that he has somehow helped Granit Xhaka develop a sense of positional discipline.
