Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been declared the victor in his fierce campaign against Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke, ending the upstart political star's longshot bid to unseat the widely loathed Republican.

News and ABC News are both projecting Ted Cruz has defeated O'Rourke. In contrast, Cruz raised $40 million.

O'Rourke raised more than $70 million during the heated Senate race, including more than $38 million from the July to September campaign period alone.

The Democrat got the endorsement of Texan Willie Nelson, who performed at a rally.

Polling showed Cruz - vying for his second term - consistently ahead, but by single digits.

Still, the race should never have been this close in the Lone Star State.

Mac Miller died from mix of fentanyl, cocaine and ethanol, coroner says
Last year, the country experienced a record number of drug overdoses, an increase driven by synthetic opioid use, the CDC found. Rapper Mac Miller was killed by a deadly mix of drugs and alcohol, the Los Angeles medical examiner's office said on Monday.

Triumph then asked voters if they were impressed by the way Ted has forgiven Donald Trump, and "if Ted loses do you think he'll end up back with his first love, that mute lady from The Shape of Water, because he's a disgusting fish monster!" Trump traveled to Houston in late October on Cruz's behalf.

And Republican durability in states across the country, in an election expected to deliver a rebuke to Donald Trump, shows the party is doing something right in voters' eyes. Though the senator has since become one of Trump's staunchest defenders, the president nonetheless staged a massive rally in Houston just two weeks before Election Day to ensure his conservative base wouldn't abandon Cruz. "He's dishonest", O'Rourke said then.

Cruz used the opportunity to go after O'Rourke's out-of-state supporters: "left-wing national activists and left-wing national donors".

"Have you ever actually heard his music?"

Meanwhile, a comedy bit put the candidates in the national spotlight yet again.

Triumph spoke with Democratic candidate Beto O'Rourke first and joked with him about his support with younger voters. Cruz, however, tried to have a moment with Triumph. Triumph responded by saying "I support spaying and neutering, just like Trump did to you".
