In other uncontested House races, Democratic Rep. Richard Neal won re-election in the 1st Congressional District. Pappas and Davids are part of this year's Rainbow wave that saw a record amount of LGBT candidates (244, according to the New York Times) run for office.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, one of the Democrats who is considering the 2020 race, said that the two years since Trump ascended to the White House had ushered a new generation of women into public life. Since the 2020 presidential election is about to begin in earnest (and midterm results led to more than one name be floated as possible candidates) let's take at least 24 hours to celebrate these women and their history-making wins.

Progressive insurgent Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 29, who overtook goliath Rep. Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary for New York's 14th Congressional District in a stunning upset, became the youngest woman elected to Congress in the nation's history.

Ocasio-Cortez is expected to deliver her acceptance speech in NY sometime after 10pm ET.

Though a few months older than Ocasio-Cortez, Abby Finkenauer of Iowa, along with fellow candidate Cindy Axne, won a different distinction as the first women Iowa has ever sent to the House. In Georgia, the race for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams - who is vying to be the first black woman governor in the USA - and Republican Brian Kemp remains too close to call. "This is gonna be the most diverse freshmen class of women that we've ever brought in by far, in race, profession, and age", she said.
